NYC Kicks Off Its First Country Music Festival

FarmBorough may be one term we need to ensure that country music has gone totally mainstream. The country music festival will feature performances by some of the biggest names in the genre, including Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and Eric Church. It’s expected to draw 40,000 fans and will be New York City’s first-ever major country music festival. While it’s a testament to just how popular country music is throughout the United States, will this event be enough of a success to become a Big Apple tradition?

“[President of country touring at Live Nation, Brian] O’Connell also thinks hosting a country music festival in New York City will attract more international travelers than rural counterparts: ‘It’s a lot tougher for a guy from London to get there than to Eau Claire, Wisconsin.’ FarmBorough organizers are confident the turnout will demand continuing the festival next year. ‘We didn’t jump into this thing and say, “Hey, let’s get rich on the third weekend in June,’” O’Connell says. ‘This is about building community and long-term relationships. Hopefully in 20 years people here will be introducing their children to this experience.’”
